CO: $25.18
BN: $26.02
SB: $17.07

UTG folds, HJ raises to $0.75, CO folds, BN calls $0.75, SB folds, Hero calls $0.50
Hey!
This is supposed to be a rather general thread about donkbetting even though I'm obviously interested in how to play out this hand in particular as well.
I've put quite a lot of thoughts in the up- and downsides of donkbetting but I feel like I still haven't quite understood the concept yet. Hopefully this hand is suitable to start a little discussion.
(At my stakes) It's a common spot to be 3w with a regular and a fish. Donkbetting becomes attractive when I am first to act, regular second to act and the fish is IP since the regular can't call as wide or start bluffraising frequently since the weak player will oftentimes come along, not fold vs a bluffraise or make some funky minraise stuff as well. Simply put, it just forces the regular to play his hands pretty honestly and mostly straightforward. Flaws in this logic already?
Another spot where donking comes to mind would be the weak player first to act and then it's up to us. If we donk here the regular still has to expect quite a few overcalls from the weak player or even some x/raises. However being IP this is definetly the better of the two above scenarios for the regular.
Now, the interesting or rather difficult part is to find hands to donkbet with:
- Very strong made hands (mostly on drawy boards) that don't want a check through which will often happen since the regular won't cbet as light with the weak player IP. Additionally the weaker player is (on average) more likely to x back than an (agressive regular).
- Strong draws. Since it's a draw it's the regular is very often folding decent EQ if he folds any piece or pocketpair. Now I wonder, should I donk strong nuttish draws only that can continue vs a raise or does it make sense to take the strongest part of the range that otherwise would x/fold so I do have ok EQ but I don't have to donk/fold hands that I otherwise could or would x/c
- Now the not-so-strong range. Intuitivly it doesn't make sense to donk marginal hands with 2 players (even 1 weak player) IP but on the other hand I make it kinda easy for the regular if I only donk NFD+sth. or top2/sets. Is it a reasonable play to balance this with stuff like TP-blocker, gutter+backdoors etc or would I just set myself up to play with a weakish hand OOP vs 1 or 2 player on turns and rivers?
I hope we can gather some thoughts here. Thanks in advance!
