playing with friends. using the following scoring: 6 points for a sweep or if your opponent fouls. 1 point for a win.
front royalty scoring: 1 pt royalty starting at 66x adding a point until a 9 pt royalty for AAx. 10 pt royalty for 222 adding a point for each higher trips hand.
middle: double royalties of the bottom.
bottom: 20pts Royal Flush, 10pts Straight Flush, 8pts Quads, 6pts Full House, 4pts Flush, 2pts Straight
A couple strategy thoughts.
1) never go for a middle straight on the bottom row unless it's you're only option. The royalty is the least valuable and your hand can't develop into anything strong since you can't make a flush in the middle and you can't change your plan and accept a pair later in the hand.
2) HU I think not following against most players making the occasional poor decision should be your number 1 goal. I've turned some chicken shit hands into slight winning sessions because my opponent always went for a royalty while I just tried to make pairs and avoid fouling. Not suggesting don't go for the royalty if the seed is there, but HU hand values drop, and not fouling seems really important.
3) I have no idea what to do with small pairs in your starting 5 when OOP. Example Ah9c7d2s2h as your starting 5. For awhile I was putting the small pair on bottom with my high card hoping to make trips or two pair, knowing that any A or 2 gives me a strong enough hand to start making pairs in the middle. But then I found when OOP sometimes a couple of my outs would be placed, and suddenly I'm drawing to 2-3 outs instead of 5, and I have to lay my next big card on the bottom and scramble to try and make two pair. And until I do any pair I play in the middle is going to risk fouling my hand. Thoughts on how to play those small pairs?
4) Flushes seem more valuable to chase than straights since they don't restrict your pair options, and they come in at least as often as straights without fouling your board for twice the royalty. Due to the rules of the game I think it would actually make more sense to change some of the royalty values, but as listed above I'd say a flush is worth much much more than a straight simply because you're less likely to foul your hand while chasing it.
please post your thoughts and comments. I'm trying to learn more about the game and correct strategy, but there isn't a ton of available information out there.
