Turn Line Check/River Line Check in 4B Pot
Live 2-5
Unknown (likely fish) raise to $15 HJ
Assumed reg with an accent(thinking he is maybe euro
At this time), 3bets to $75(15bb)
(I think he is using bigger sizes preflop just because there’s a lot of fish in game/this guy is a fish; it's very odd to me to see him 5x 3betting, but I still stick with my read he is a reg)
Folds to hero in sb w QdQx $900ish eff(180bbish)
Hero 4b to $190
Folds to co who calls
Flop Td3d5x
Pot $400
Hero cbet $120
Call
Turn 5x
Hero check
Co check
Riv Qx
Pot is around $640
We have about that behind
Hero?
Looking for feed back on overall strategy on river.
Also, is turn check ever a thing like I did?
I went for a river check, but I think betting is better in my shoes because I think alot of his floats on flop+turn check are JJ/AK. I thought in the moment that AK might turn into a bluff after i bet small check check, but in reality I think alot of players will just pray for a showdown chop, and def check back JJ on riv. I was thinking a jam on river might be better than a small bet to target JJ specifically, and maybe some AQ/KQ that had backdoors, but we do block that pretty hard with the Qd in hand.
I reached out to some friends, and one of them pointed out he would bet turn 1/3 as well, and not check. I guess my reasoning for a check on turn was basically, it's going to be hard to get 3 streets from JJ, and by checking I may encourage him to turn some floats into a bluff, and therefore keep his range wider and potentially get value from his air hands. He also pointed out that JJ will often bet small when i check to him on turn, so it is possible that vs the check back, his range looks very AK heavy, and it's possible using a 1/4 pot sizing on river might be better than checking.
