NL25: defending BvB vs maniac

Two spots in my session came up vs a super laggy/maniacy dude where I felt somewhat owned/playing into his strategy but don't see how the alternative: folding every single time unless I hit big and he snapfolds cause he knows it, can make me money.

Some stats about him:

42/27/3b 14

F3: 0/4

steal: 46, SB: 3/4

Cbet: 6/8 (no difference between IP/OOP)

So without having too many proven reads about his tendencies I strongly suspect at this point that he's too sticky, too involved in too many pots and my general strategy would be to hit at least a decent piece of the board and play it out from there.

So I've played a whole lot tighter vs him than the average reg at these stakes. However he was constantly raising his BTN and I suspected that he was also stealing too many SBs and cbetting too many pots. Two BvB spots came up where I had A5o and he 3x'd into me. No way I can think about folding this pre, right? Board was 874 2t, I hit the 5 high BDFD and apparently a GS, A high and a super board for my range. I also haven't played back in any way during the last couple orbits and it just feels weird straight out folding this hand. What am I trying to hit if I fold on boards like these. So I decided to put in a small raise over his 1/3 pot cbet(!) and give up on a brick 4, 9 to his 2/3 river bet.

A couple orbits later, same spot with Q8o. This is the bottom of my defending range vs him but I still feel like it's a bit too strong to fold. J8o I probably would although it's close as well. Flop was 972 2t where I again hit the Q high BDFD and he 1/2 pot cbet. Again I felt obligated to raise and then giveup again on a 3 which brought the other FD (too many hands I can barrel with, too few value hands I can rep).

I felt a bit stupid and super transparently playing into his game. So my questions are:

1) Are these two hands anything but clear defends preflop?

2) If we do call them, can we afford to just fold hands/(bd)draws of these strengths without letting him autoprofit by winning too many pots uncontested?

3) Or is it correct to tighten up my range in general but still aggressively semibluff with the (stronger) draw section of that range? Should I for example have 2barreled either spot or played back in a completely different way?

Interested in how you go about this.
