Learning how to defend optimally
Lately I've been working a lot trying to understand define my defending ranges in different spots. I think this is vital for my game. Knowing my ranges makes me feel more confident about my plays, and also helps me a great deal with some of my mental issues. Hopefully I can generate some discussion on this!
The CREV I ran on http://www.runitonce.com/nlhe/500-nl-river-decision-in-3bet-pot/, showed me some results that sort of surprised me. Didn't want to hijack the AQ shove or check topic.
So I'd like to ask again one of the doubts I had at the beginning of the thread. OTF and from Hero's perspective, I'm usually folding AT but calling KQ. the first has 48% equity against the range I assigned VIllain on the sim, and KQ has 40%. This means I must include AT in my defending range? How about KQ? How about Ax without backdoorFD ?
The way I see it, KQ is a hand whose outs will get barreled more often, we have implied odds. However we should be perceived to defend with a lot of Ax, which should reduce their value when the Ace hits.
I don't know how to sort of account for this. How to optimally decide which hands to defend, given equity vs range, future streets playability, player tendencies, range vs range considerations, equity realization,... This is basically what I'd like to start a discussion about, not whether specifically AT is a fold/call on this specific scenario.
