HU vs 6-max
I play 6-max cash almost exclusively on an Indian site (50NL equivalent). The player pool is not big, and there's no Zoom.
I am thinking of trying out HU for the following reasons:
(a) The rake is lower on HU tables. Also, I've heard that HU winrates tend to be higher than 6-max winrates. Is this true?
(b) Since the player pool is not big, I can get good reads on most regulars, as well as many recs.
(c) I find myself starting tables in 6-max quite often, because recs tend to just join short-handed tables in preference to joining waiting lists. Also, most recs play pretty bad in HU or short-handed play, where the ranges are wide.
(d) I have had decent results in HU, and I find playing wide ranges rather fun.
(e) I plan to play a few MTTs on the side (I can get free tickets through some promos). HU practice would be nice if I manage to final table.
I have Will Tipton's book Expert Heads Up No Limit Hold'em, Vol. 1, as well as Matthew Janda's book Applications of No-Limit Hold'em. I haven't read either one yet.
The issues I have with spending a significant time in HU is that:
(a) 6-max is going fairly well, and I may move up soon if things keep going well.
(b) I feel that I have a lot of learning yet to do in 6-max, so I'm leery of branching out too soon.
(c) I don't use solvers in my study (yet). My impression is that HU play involves a lot of solver work, or at least lots of work constructing ranges in various spots.
Any comments welcome.
