Defending Pocket Pairs OOP in Live against tighter Ranges
Hey guys, this has come up a couple times in the last week or two, and I am not confident about how to proceed.
Example 1
1 limp
I make it $17 w TT in LJ and face a 3-B from the HJ against an unknown at the time to $50, folds to us and we are around $487 deep. Most of the time here, against a live unknown range, he is often just going to have a big pair here, and often in the games I play people aren't even 3betting AK anywhere near 100%. In a case like this, what kind of implied odds do we want to set mine? I usually aim for something like 1:14 if we are purely set mining, especially OOP. Is this too big/too small a gap? What if we are in position?
Another similar example I think
2 limps
We raise TT in HJ to $20 playing $500 eff
CO Loose aggressive Reg makes it $60, again we are getting around 1:14 to set mine, except here he likely has more hands in his range than big pairs, so we can't really exclusively set mine.(AK, JJ+, AQ, AJs, maybe some AJ/KQo unsure of these) I suppose here it is a little worst for us and we might just have to fold more not having really good implied odds, but still against a pretty strong range that we are going to get run over alot against postflop. Kinda hard to do much floating against such a strong range, but maybe good for a single street, but also alot of boards we just have to fold flop on. Imagine a live reg will have alot of flats here to keep all the fishies in, which is probably a good idea to be fair, so his 3bet range im guessing will be pretty strong.
Just curious what kind of frame work some of yall use in these kinda of situations to come to a clear solution
Cheers :)
