Jamming Strategy

-Lets say blinds 400/800/100 so theres 2100 in pot and semi-agressive reg raises to 2k in the CO and we are in the BB with ATo with 19bb. Many people jam here, including myself as I do it out of habit. My logic is just like 'oh i am ahead of his opening range so I will jam.' Now I think this is plus EV but when called, we are almost always in trouble as I'd expect him to call 77+ AJo+ ATs+ KQo KJs+. Is it just that he folds often enough (and we pick up 4100) and we do well against his calling range when he calls (prob 38% equity) such that its profitable?
-It just seems counter intuitive in a way because I feel like this hand does well post flop versus his opening range and bad when isolated versus his stronger hands.
-I get the logic in jamming 22-77 or A5s but dont know how to determine what other lightish hands to jam. Obv we just jam ATs+ AQo+ 88+ for value.
-That also brings me to another point. Is KQs KJs QJs good hands to jam or just flat because they flop well and can check/jam a lot with equity but dont do great versus ATs+ AJo+ KQs+ 77+?
(Been playing more cash games so sort of rusty on this)
