Heads-up in 10player freeroll sitngo with 2100usd first prize
During the tournament I tried every spot to get some extra chips and relying on other people to knocking each other out. I folded AK in a re-raised three-way pot preflop and things like that because I felt I could find better spots. Everything was fine until headsup.
The person that I was headsup with had picked up on my unwillingness to stick to pots in which I got a lot of resistance. He turned his aggressiveness up directly.
Last year I also was in this same tournament (after placing high on the same leaderboard) and was out with A7 over AK. After that I was really frustrated that I hadn't waited for a better spot and it was sort of the same type of player I was up against this year.
This time I got scared and folded stuff and a few hands later I had to go all in and I was out. Painful. It was like I never really had a chance. The blinds were about 250/500 and we had about 10 000 chips each.
If I was gonna do this headsup match again I would try to win the first hands no matter what and really try to make a statement. If we would be allin then maybe I would win even with a bad starting hand. In the best scenario the other player would be the one to get scared of my nonchalance towards the big prize and maybe that would give me such a big psychological and chipwise advantage so that it would be worth it.
What do you think in general? How do you approach these matches? I just feel that I made such a huge mistake!
