This is a great flop for me with the NFD and a Gutshot but he is a lag and I think he will c bet this flop with a high spade or not so I check not wanting to scare him out of the pot.

Did I lose value by checking the flop? I've been looking for good 3 bet spots so should I have 3 bet preflop? If I did and he called I'm not sure he would have called anything post flop and I guess he might have just folded pre
