The asymptotic ending of raked poker?
Its a cross post but since other sites has a revenue stream from poker sites it might get taken down. Hopefully its appropriate here....
To be quick and direct, players have awoken to the idea that they can
exchange monies in the form of bitcoin anonymously to anywhere where in
the world with a poker connection.
Soon they are to realize that one can set up a play money rake free game
and have players contribute donations to the trusted escrow, who then
pays out the resulting prize pool based on the agreed upon (pre
tournament) exchange.
As an adjustment to market changes stars would no doubt ban certain
transactions and transactors as a result. (100 players sending 1 dollar
buyin to 1 players).
So how quick might the players realize they can exchange their money for
bitcoin, rather than poker stars chips, and keep the prize pool
anonymous, confidential, and rake free while still using incredible
software
One might argue a counter adjustment might ensue, perhaps no unraked
home games? Well a group of players playing $10 + 1 buying can move
down to a $1 + .1 buying and play one tenth of the rake @ 1/10 the
buyin. Thus less of a bankroll needs to reside on the man land and
monies can be escrow-ed and paid out upon completion
Escrow, can be setup up in a one on one peer to peer registration
process (much like bitcoin itself) so eventually an independent site can
be used to read the results of the tourney and pay players accordingly,
automatically and anonymously. Player could simply escrow either with
the last player regged and the next player to reg (last player of the
tourney escrows 2nd last and the 1st player. Or players can split the
extra between each player in the game (prob neither are needed for irl
as an escrow with sufficiently low fee would do, or preferably 0 which
seems to exist)
Why might one do this? Well because you will now be making a similar
wager in a field with weaker players vs the players who move down from
you. The value of exchange for your money increases drastically in many
ways, as we should expect it too, under the direction of the lecture
"ideal money". In poker we specifically see a drastic reduction of rake
starting from a significant drop and resulting in next to 0 and
eventually zero rake (peer to peer open source sites)
So the only question left is how fast will the community shift to bitcoin?
What do we feel about play money sites like xynga now?
How interesting might it be if higher stakes players can play the same
tournament with low stakes players without averaging or altering the
buyins?
Do we consider it immoral to take back the rake lost since black fridays attack on the integrity (probability) of the game?
Can the markets resist this invisible hand?
