Returning to poker: Looking for some advice

Hi guys, I am hoping to get some general advice, on playing low stakes poker as a former reg who is now looking to play again but having to balance poker with a full time job.

Quick bit of background:

I have played poker for around 9 years and always had some degree of success. This peaked in 2009 when I was playing full-time with a decent win rate up to 200nl and 100plo. (Primarily 6max with some hu). At this point I made the decision that I didn't want to play professionally and took a couple of years out travelling etc. and hardly played at all 2010- late 2011. Between then and now I have had various stints of dabbling again in nl and PLO around the 50nl mark and kept somewhat up to date with the progression of the game and theory etc. These stints have generally ended with me withdrawing my bankroll because I felt I did not have enough time to invest in studying  and playing around work and social life etc (obviously I didn't have a huge amount of success in these periods but generally made some money or broke even).

I am now looking to start up again somewhat seriously as I love the game and enjoy the challenge. I am going to start at 25nl on the zoom tables for now, I am not aspiring to rise through the stakes and turn pro; I enjoy my day job and have good prospects there, but to make a decent side income would be great. On average I expect to be able to dedicate around 12 - 15hours a week to poker study and gametime.

I am looking for advice on the following issues:

1. Since I am not going to be able to achieve a decent VIP status on stars - how does FTP compare nowadays in terms of rakeback and player pool

2. I would guess that my ability relative to other regulars is probably fairly similar in PLO to NL, but I suspect the effective rake in PLO is too much higher at such small stakes to make it a good choice; at what limits is this likely to be mitigated? Any other general advice on which game to concentrate on?

3. Finally and most importantly I am looking for general advice (especially from players who are or have been in a similar situation) on how to balance poker and poker study with a full time job.

All advice appreciated.
