Euro Trip, MoP, and Loss Avoidance

Hello,

I am wrapping up my stay here in Mexico and am really excited to be heading to Europe in a week for my first time. I have some goals for my upcoming 6 month euro trip and I thought this would be a good place to share them- as I enjoy reading these journals myself.

1) Have fun, see new things, and meet amazing people

2) Read Mathematics of Poker. I have a lot of books on my reading list, but MoP seems like an obvious first choice. It is probably going to be a grind of a read, but I have never heard anyone who regretted spending the time/effort to get through it.

3) Simply put, I am a scared to play higher. More academically put, my cognitive bias of loss avoidance (losses hurting more than equivalent gains make you feel good) is really strong and is keeping me from playing higher. This is a problem because I feel playing higher gives me the best opportunity to learn and improve- which is my main poker goal. I know that I have this bias and that it is holding me back....now I just need to find a way(s) to push through it.

A bit about me: American, 23 y/o, "pro" as of Jan '13, switched to PLO as of Jan '13, my main game is 1/2 PLO 6m on Stars.

Lifetime PLO Graph:

Almost all of my learning away from the table learning has come from the RIO community. I like the videos, love the openness and helpfulness in the forums, and really appreciate the work a lot of guys put in.

Euro Trip plans: Booked a one way ticket to London (leaving in a week), then idk......just going to make it up as I go. So if anyone has any recommendations, ideas, or is located where I might be and would like to grab a beer or chat....let me know.

My guess is that this will turn into half trip report half journal/motivation/reflection on my goals.

Updates to come. Thanks for reading.
