Downswings in sports: Math or Skill?
So everyone knows that in poker downswings are inevitable. At one point in your poker career, you'll miss a flush draw 10 times, you wont see a pair in 200 hands, you'll get aces 3 times in a row and lose all 3 times, etc.
But lets say in a sport like basketball. Lets just say Stephen Curry has a 70% chance to hit 3 pointers in a open gym where he's just practicing and there no one to guard him. Lets just say he has a bad stretch and over 20 shots he only makes 7.
Is this a downswing thats inevitable because of math, or a downswing because maybe Stephen wasn't feeling good, wasn't focused, losing his touch etc..?????????
I think this is interesting because when you have a downswing in poker, you can't control anything. But when Stephen Curry has a downswing on his 3 point shot, he controls everything.
