POSTED Apr 01, 2018

Steve Paul follows up on his video discussing deal making in MTT's for those times you find yourself at a final table and want to take maximum advantage. Having introduced most common methods to calculate the share of the prize pool in part one, Steve conducts a database analysis in this video to inspect which calculation method you should favor in each chip position.

I speculate that the increased prize share in the million for the big stacks has a lot more to do with scared money effects than it has to do with skill edge. I think there's only a (very) small correlation between final table stack size and skill edge, but that there's a large effect between field size / absolute payout size and big stack advantage (also, to put it differently, we could imagine risk aversion on the part of the non big stacks accounting for all the variation between the super tuesday and million, or even risk aversion on the part of every stack accounting for the variation by making the avg final table length longer increasing the advantage of the larger stack).

Thanks for the reply Ben. You're probably right that I overrated the higher skill -> more chips effect, and underestimated how risk averse people are going to play at the final table of the million.
