50NL 6-Max Losing Regular, Stats Review

Hey guys, first real post so I will give a short introduction. I was a small winner at uSNL/SSNL from 2006-2010. Mostly 100NL on PS/FTP and I played a lot of rush poker before Black Friday. I took long break from the game and recently decided to get back into it at 50NL recently over the past 3 months. It seems the games have gotten a lot tougher.

It's only been 3 months but I can't seem to win. There are still plenty of fish but I'm having a tougher time vs. the regulars now. I decided to sign up to this website as a first step to recovery. I admit to being out of the loop and a losing player. I'm hoping you guys can point me in the right direction to become a winning player once again :)

First of all, are there any good guides out there to help me "drill down" to find my biggest leaks in HEM? So many stats, not sure where to start. But here is a screenshot to start:

Stats (non-resized)

It appears that I'm losing a massive amount in the SB/BB. Is losing that amount normal or am I just not winning enough in the other positions? Any good filters to help get me started?

Advice would be immensely appreciated.

Hey, from the first glance on your stats there´s not that much groundbreaking to identify (not surprising), though some small things stick out:

Your 3bet% from the blinds seems a bit too low (especially from the SB, here you could go up to 15%), which - in combination with the big gap between VPIP and PFR (again, from the SB!!) leads me to think that you´re cold-calling too much in the SB - instead of 3-betting.

First thing you should filter is "hands where you called from the SB", how much are you losing there? Don´t add "seen flop" or anything because you probably lost a bunch of money vs. squeezes as well.

Second thing that comes up is your low steal% from the SB. Filter for "SB steal" and look at your succes rate, you´ll likely find out that you can steal way more.

Third thing is that your cbet stats look pretty high (for today´s games), players aren´t mindlessly folding anymore so it´s important to keep any eye on further streets, check your "check and fold turn after cbet flop" to see how easy it might be to just blindly float you and wait for your turncheck, especially from the BTN, where your range is so wide.

For anything further we had to look at more detailed stats ...

That's already pointing me in the right direction. I drilled down on a few stats and noticed that the majority of my non-SD winnings is from cold calling in the blinds too much (especially SB).

Cold Call from SB/BB

And the point about c-betting too often is also true. I believe this is where many regs are exploiting me either by raising my flop c-bets or floating me more on turns.

C-Bet Flop, Check Turn

In retrospect my floats aren't making me as much money as they probably should be?

Float Flop

And I likely need to re-think my strategy revolving flatting 3-bets as well.

Flat 3-Bet

One thing I'm still not too sure about is where my stats should be. Ok so my flop c-bet of 70% is too high. But what is ideal? Any good posts out there? I recall reading a HEM document where they aggregated a ton of stats from winning players and showed ranges of good stats. Anyone know where I can find this or if it's still valid today?

Thanks again.

Hey bdon, seems as if you found out some good stuff already - which is perfect. I like how you approach the game. What you should NOT do now is to look for the "right" stat and try to reach it. That´s entirely the wrong approach. It´s the overall game plan that has to be solid - and that can look very differently for different players. Even though many winning players have similar looking stats, that don´t mean, that simply copying their stats will lead to even close results!!

What you SHOULD do instead is doing the hard work ... take the filters you already used and drill down deeper. Why are you losing what you´re losing when cold-calling in SB/BB? At which point? Are you x/f the flop? Are you x/c flop, x/f turn? x/c, x/c, x/f? Every single scenario, like cold-calling in the blinds has multiple possible outcomes postflop and likely one or two of those are the dominant loss-leaders, find them out - and try to come up with a better strategy. Start with preflop - how do you make money by cold-calling this or that hand? What is your plan for postflop? What leaks in your opponent are you trying to exploit - when you dare to let him see a flop - instead of punching him preflop by 3-betting?

If you rigidly take one step after the other ... starting with your biggest leaks (in terms of money losing situations) and take the work necessary - your stats eventually will converge to what´s "good". No matter how they eventually look like.

So, again - because it´s so important:

1) Don´t look for the shortcut - don´t copy any moves / stats, whatever.

2) Analyze situations! And come up with good solutions.

3) Take one step after the other - don´t overwhelm yourself. If you start with cbetting, live with the fact that you´re likely still losing from the blinds - it´s okay!! Just reduce your cold-calling a bit to keep your losses in guard, but concentrate on one topic - and fully nail it down.

GL to you!!
