I enjoyed this format and wouldn't mind seeing it once a month interspersed with other videos like you suggested.

10min: what about 3bet sizing especially ip? I wonder if it is really necessary or the best play to press the pot btn?
Phil Galfond 12 years, 2 months ago
@Gofa, I have a feeling that 3betting smaller IP is likely best in tournaments, especially when your post flop advantage is big. I'd be curious to see how people would react to it.

(In my experience in mtts players react superstraightforward to small 3bets, even if you kind of overdo it. 1st: the average skill level in mtts is pretty low (even in hs plo mtts) so they basically only 4bet AA/KK+very rarely some random stuff. 2nd: good players usually try to reduce variance so they are also more hesitante to 4bet light.)

I was wanting to know if you could please give a list of your hud stat. Just the cbet row and bottom row. Thanks for a great site!!

flop cbet, (fold to flop raise), turn cbet, river bet %, fold when missed flop cbet, fold when missed turn cbet
fold to flop cbet, (raise flop cbet), fold to turn cbet, river fold %, bet vs missed flop cbet, bet vs missed turn cbet

Glad you're enjoying the site!

I do dabble in PLO tourneys occasionally, but overall I'd definitely prefer cash or concept videos. Still cool to see your final table and top three run though.

Enjoyed the video but I gotta admit I'd love to see some kind of 5-10 or 10-20 PLO video with filled 6max tables. Big shorthanded games against oddsen, ilari, etc. are great but I feel its still a way different game than non-nosebleed games that sometimes have a target on the table or sometimes only unknown players. Its just a way different dynamic and I think it hits a lot your audience.

Cheers and happy new year ;)

I hear you, Kirby. I started with the 200/400 footage because I had some good games for it, which is somewhat rare, and I wanted to kick the site off with a bang. Most of my videos will be 3/6-25/50.

And for those asking, I will make some NL videos, but most of my videos will be PLO. (this is based on my understanding of demand... so let me know if I'm wrong)

regarding the hand around the 32 min mark where you CIB on the AK7 board. Are you saying that generally you only expect AA to be the only realistic legitimate check raise hand is this in general or just in tournies? Would you therefore be just flatting most of your continuing range as the BB?

Also when you CIB on the flop you use an exactly min sizing would you use the same sizing in a cash game at say 100bb or would it need to be bigger?
Phil Galfond 12 years, 2 months ago
In tourneys, I assumed a player as good as H@ll would look for spots vs. weaker opponents rather than push any kind of thin hands vs. me for stacks. I definitely wouldn't feel this way in a cash game, but I find that in tournaments, players are very careful about the hands they choose to start building huge pots with when they don't have to.

In a cash game I'd have a larger sizing, but with stacks relatively shallow and in a tourney, a click-back is sufficient.

and now iv finished watching il add yeh pretty much what others said good to see both, obviously rather see cash games in general but there isnt much out there on mtt strategy in plo so good to see that too

Really liked that, as PLO MTT content is so rare in vids. Also most concepts you discussed can be assigned to CG anyway.
ggho22 12 years, 2 months ago
i was thinking to ask for a video like this. what phil says about the field being really soft at plo tournaments coulnd't be more true. the problem is that there are so few of them(only 1 serious plo tourney every week at stars)... anyways i really like this idea can't wait to see the next episodes where he busts me ( i hope i don't get flamed :D) .
MajaIvarsson99 12 years, 2 months ago
Yea good video but your cash game videos are better. I'd like to see the rest of this since MTT content is fairly rare for PLO but just keep making like 80% PLO cash and I'll be happy :)

nice video Phil I enjoyed watching about PLO mtt's. So i think its good to mix it up from time to time.

Great point about the Ks vs. the 5s towards the end of the video. That was really good!

Also I wanted to point out that for the past 2 weeks or so the site has been extremely lagging for me here in Asia. I've also had a few friends point that out also. Often when it loads initially its so slow that its unwatchable. I'd have to refresh the page or open up another page for this video and maybe in 5 tries it will run smoothly but often it will stop the video in the middle and never load. I have very decent internet and I don't have an issue with other training sites like CR or Leggo.

Can you please look into that? thanks!

btw I wanted to know that in the hand you had 6699 and tried to barrel 4s2cQsKs turn. Would you barrel off on the river or do you feel that he has too many flush combos?
Phil Galfond 12 years, 2 months ago
With the 9966, I hadn't decided. I think he'd have a large amount of flushes after calling the turn, but I also think that he'd very rarely have the nut flush (to not raise flop or turn). Because of that, and the fact that I think he wouldn't expect me to barrel off without the blocker very often, I'd actually consider trying to push him off of a low flush here.

pacmang 12 years, 2 months ago
Thanks Phil.

I know that in MTT's your sizing is a lot smaller so I'm curious to see if you were going to bluff the river what sizing would you use. Could you both discuss your sizing in cash game vs. MTT. Thanks!

Thanks for the video feedback, guys!

I have part 2 of this already on the way, but I'll switch back to cash after that. Depending on what I keep hearing, I'll touch back on this every once in a while.

Hi, I think this video series would be great as a one per month thing as you mentioned! I'd also be interested in some exploitative/GTO specific stuff. Great site!
Bluffalobill 12 years, 2 months ago
Great thinking processes as always. I must say though, that like many others have commented I also much prefer cash PLO. And preferably more HU stuff. would be awesome with more stuff vs Sauce, for example.

Great video Phil, I feel like there is very little educational content regarding PLO mtts.

I would like to see you make a video for the Shallow/Cap strutures that seem very popular on FTP atm, the short stack depths in those games follow closely to the short stack depths often played out in MTTs.
Brian Rast 12 years, 2 months ago
I enjoyed the video... I say finish the series, but do it at the rate you suggested of 1/month so that you are putting out other types of videos regularly also.
Markus 12 years, 2 months ago
hey, since there is not much plo mtt content out there, i´d would have been also very interesting for me to watch the whole footage and not just a few hands that you found interesting. i can understand that you feel its boring, because in cash game you dont have those aspects of tourney life etc, so you can push the edges way better, but seeing all adjustments you make in a plo mtt would be very interesting for me and i think for many others as well.

so for me a liveplay video would have been much more interesting than a handreview and i hope one day you are going to make one, but i definately agree that the most of your videos should be plo cashgame. i just think a liveplay plo mtt would be pretty "nice to have" since its really hard to get good content there.
frenchkiss 12 years, 2 months ago
Feedback : I liked the video. As you pointed out in the vid, I think that doing it only from time to time (once a month ?) would be fine, and mixing it up with PLO and NL cgames would be the best balance. Anyway, I always learn tons from your analysis, whatever the content is. Can't wait to see the end of that one.

Hey Phil;

At around 20 minutes you flop top 2 with no redraws on K75 two-tone. You spend a lot of time talking about the turn bet size but didn't say much about betting a little less than half pot on the flop. Can you discuss your flop sizing a bit please?
apv2009 11 years, 4 months ago

Hi Phil

min 25, the hand AKQQ, you saying you are equity behind of the BTN 3 betting range, by calling what you expect to flop?

What % of flops you think you are getting in? I can't see a decent % of good flops for us.

You didn't mention folding preflop, that you be out of the question? ty

Aloysius 9 years, 5 months ago

I mostly enjoy the deep stack cash videos, but am definitely looking forward to watching parts two and three; it doesn't seem like there are too many PLO tournament videos out there!

jms54 8 years, 11 months ago

I just joined the site and really would like to see more PLO mtt. I agree with someone who said they would like to see all the hands even if they are run through quickly as I would get a really good idea as to what you are folding to raises and 3 bets. But I definitely would like to see more MTT
