Getting some repeat questions on Twitter, so I'm going to start answering some here to refer people to...

Will I be able to play on Run It Once Poker from my country?

As of today, residents of the following countries are not allowed to create an account on RIO Poker: Afghanistan, Australia, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany (State of Schleswig-Holstein), Greece, Guyana, Iran, Iraq, Italy, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Syria, Uganda, United States of America, Vanuatu, Yemen.

Residents of other countries are not allowed to play while physically being located in any of these countries.

Gaming regulations and restrictions change frequently. While the above is accurate as of today, an up-to-date list of restrictions will be available in our Terms&Conditions at launch.

This question falls squarely in the category of "will be explored and explained in depth in a future post."

The purpose of the future posts I discussed are to make sure that our important decisions aren't just shared without any explanation, so I have to leave you in suspense for now. Sorry!

Quido 7 years ago

Why won't you allow North Koreans on your site Phil? Did the rabid anti-communism get also to you? :-/

Phil Galfond 6 years, 11 months ago

The rules are up to the regulators - we'll just be following the rules!

For Portugal and many other countries that require individual licenses, we would love to offer our games to you, and we will apply for those licenses if and when it makes sense for us. I haven't done a deep dive on the viability of entering the ring-fenced markets, but I expect it may be a little while before we'd be able to gain enough traction and enough liquidity to pull it off. I believe we can get there eventually, but we'll need our brand to have grown, and we'll need to be ready to market very heavily in those specific countries. Hopefully, I'm wrong and it can happen soon!

SnowmanMOT 7 years ago

Good luck Phil! The wait looks like it was well worth it!

Will video makers on RIO be like your version of 'Team Pro' and play on the site?
And when you mention cash games, which games and mixes will you be offering initially and at full launch?

Phil Galfond 7 years ago

Will video makers on RIO be like your version of 'Team Pro' and play on the site?

A number of RIO pros already have sponsorship deals with other poker sites. We don't want signing on as a RIO Training pro to limit a player's opportunities elsewhere, so we won't be using the names/likeness of our RIO Training pros to promote RIO Poker without explicit permission.

Samu Patronen 7 years ago

I would expect free RIO clothing and money for big live tournaments for moderators. Also 100% rakeback.

Phil Galfond 7 years ago

And when you mention cash games, which games and mixes will you be offering initially and at full launch?

and

in phase 1 will be some kind of zoom poker?

We'll start with only popular/high liquidity offerings around launch -NLHE and PLO. We plan to add a number of different games as we grow. I'll go into more detail about the exact offerings in future posts.

Christopher Franco 7 years ago

Any sneak peak in to what is gonna be VIP program/Rakeback ? Are we gonna be able to exchange our players points for luxury cars and extravagant vacations ? (2nd question is a joke obvius)

Wish you the best of luck on this project

Phil Galfond 7 years ago

Thank you!

I'll be making a big post on our plans for rake and rewards, as it's an area we put a lot of thought and effort into. Though I haven't written the future posts out yet, this will likely be one of the last ones to be released, so you may be in suspense for a while.

I suppose I can share that luxury cars are not part of the plan. I hope that's not too big a letdown.

miami002 7 years ago

Ouch. Seems like players from other Baltic States (Latvia, Lithuania), Belarus and also from Scandinavia (Sweden, Finland, Iceland) are all allowed to play on the site but not players from Estonia and Denmark for example. What`s up with that? Phil are you still planning to come to Estonia in the future or is this out of the question for some weird reason?

Phil Galfond 7 years ago

I'm not the company's foremost expert on licensing, but I believe the areas where we operate are based on what our licenses allow us to do. Listed countries (where we will not operate) either won't let us operate at all, or would require a specific license that we decided against applying for in our early stages due to cost vs. benefit.

We will very likely apply for more licenses eventually, but not for launch.

miami002 7 years ago

Ok. To be continued... I guess its time to start packing soon. Theres no other option at the moment. Good luck with the launch, Phil! Exciting times for online players!

ItWasAGhost 7 years ago

I am so hyped for this Phil. I've been very disillusioned with online poker over the last year or two and Stars crack down on anything good for Micro Grinders wanting to move up. but I have faith you'll find us a way! Just hope once Brexit hits England won't be banned on the site :0

yoshismokes 7 years ago

Hey Phil super Keen for this can't wait. Will there be any responsible gaming options for cash game stakes and tourney buy ins. E.g on stars you can set your limits so you can only play up to 50 dollar tourneys and ,50/1 cash games. Really hoping so it's one of my favorite things on stars. Thanks for all the hard work the poker world has faith in you take down stars :)

Phil Galfond 7 years ago

Thanks, yoshi! We have responsible gaming options, but I actually don't know precisely what those options are. All of the people who know the answer are asleep, so I'll get clarification for you tomorrow!

Phil Galfond 7 years ago

Surprise! Somebody in Malta woke up early, so I've got your answer: We will have similar buy-in restriction options!

Smokedtruth 7 years ago

Will multitabling be limited? We all agree in the 2 plus 2 thread that this would be ideal, as it makes it harder to become a reg infested site.

Phil Galfond 7 years ago

We have had countless discussions about the pros and cons of table caps. They are (part of) one of the first topics I'll be taking a deep dive on in my update posts over the coming months. I'm going to keep you in suspense until then.

It's not that I want our policies to remain a secret, but that I want to announce some very important decisions like the one you brought up along with well thought-out posts explaining why we've made the decisions we have.

It's a very good question and I'll do my best to give you a very good answer in time!

Quido 7 years ago

Given the fact a simple ABC strategy is no longer viable anyone playing ~20+ tables at once would be considered a weak reg by today's standards. I wouldn't stress over those guys.

miami002 6 years, 11 months ago

Its way too soon to start worrying about things like that. Imo its actually a good problem to have. If regulars can play 20+ tables that means Phil has done phenomenal job and traffic on the site is awesome.

Quido 7 years ago

Great to see you deliver Phil. Site looks sick, though that Theodore guy has a punchable face. =)

Moonwalker 7 years ago

Even I’m from China where we invented all those poker apps I can’t wait to play on your site Phil! Long live poker!

Moonwalker 7 years ago

If I may ask what’s my options regarding deposit and cash out as a Chinese player? I know how it works in weatern countries cuz I used to live abroad but in China it seems the only way to cash out on Pokerstars is playing their live mtt using the money in your account.

Phil Galfond 7 years ago

Thanks, Moonwalker!

I'm going to get specific details on your payment options later tonight or tomorrow. Keep in mind, once I do, that they can continue to change up until and after we launch (likely in the positive direction with us adding more).

Phil Galfond 6 years, 11 months ago

Moonwalker - Sorry I forget to get back to you! I followed up with our team and got an answer.

We have Ecopayz, Astropay and Entropay for China, and would be interested in exploring more options - would you be willing to get in touch with our payments team for some feedback and maybe testing? If so, please email support@runitonce.eu. We'd love to provide the best possible payment solutions and getting feedback from you will help!

gerb1111 6 years, 11 months ago

Will we be able to use HEM?
Will low stakes PLO be raked appropriately?
Considering there will be zero fish at the start, makes sense for an incentive for regs to battle, I really hope there is no multi table or HUD restrictions.
All the best and good luck bringing back the poker dream!

Phil Galfond 6 years, 11 months ago

Thank you! As mentioned above, I'll be detailing all of our policy decisions and features in future update posts. Your questions are good ones that I'll get to with some well thought out explanations in time!

MALTASTOLEOURPOKERMONEY 6 years, 11 months ago

How can players know their funds are safe given the fact RIO poker is regulated by MGA which is run by a mafia which has already stolen poker money from players?
http://www.runitonce.com/chatter/malta-stole-our-poker-money/#/comment-231011

Phil Galfond 6 years, 11 months ago

Obviously, everyone at Run It Once would have preferred if this situation had been resolved in such a way that players would have received their money.

We're aware of the Everleaf situation, but we don’t have any insight into this case beyond what was reported in poker and local media. I can only share our own experience with regulators.

RIO Poker obtained MGA and UKGC licenses last year. Player funds arrangements (as well as the financial stability of the business, and background of ownership and management) play a significant role in the application process. Once a site starts operating, MGA requires reporting on player funds even more frequently than UKGC does.

I'm truly sorry that you and many others lost money in the Everleaf case and that I can’t offer any additional insight or help.

SnowmanMOT 6 years, 11 months ago

Would love to be a beta tester and can’t wait for the site to launch!

Purely aesthetically, will there be avatars to choose from to customise your account and if there are, will they be limited to characters a la Full Tilt or be a submitted image like Stars?

Phil Galfond 6 years, 11 months ago

Thank you! I assume you've joined the update/tester list? It's gotten bigger than we expected very quickly, which is great, but we're not going to be able to open the doors to everyone. It'll take some time as well - we have a very small test group now, and we'll scale up slowly.

Purely aesthetically, will there be avatars to choose from to customise your account and if there are, will they be limited to characters a la Full Tilt or be a submitted image like Stars?

We will have avatars you can choose from, and they'll be more like Full Tilt's avatar system.

SnowmanMOT 6 years, 11 months ago

Yes, I submitted my email and am awaiting good news!

I really enjoyed the look of the FTP avatars and hope your site can deliver something of similar quality!

P.S. Thank you for taking time out to answer questions and queries, something that will distinguish your site regardless of software quality, rake etc is being transparent and open with your customer base and something sorely missed in the poker world in recent years!

Phil Galfond 6 years, 11 months ago

My pleasure! I'm trying to keep up with questions across forums and on twitter, but I won't be able to much longer. I need to get back to work :)

I'll always prioritize you guys who have been here supporting RIO - thank you!

Bakourin 6 years, 11 months ago

Was really excited to see this post, until I noticed players located in Greece aren't allowed to play on the site. Tbh, I kind of expected it, since our gambling laws are a mess and the market is probably too small to bother.

Still, best of luck, and hopefully we 'll be included in the future!

OMAHAHEADSUP 6 years, 11 months ago

I see a glimmer of light too but only a glimmer, this does feel like a David and Goliath type situation taking on the poker industry culture of today :/ .. In that story David used his intellect to beat the odds, the reason why I see some light at the end of the tunnel I have some faith in Phil both with strategy for business (no brainer why) and as a moral and ethical person who will have as good a chance as anyone regarding putting players equal to profits and finding ways the two can live more symbiotically than in other models. I have only seen a oligopoly of poker networks in regards to rake and choice offered and to disrupt that effectively to (hopefully) the point of across board change in the industry that would kind of make Mr Sweets OMG Poker Jesus LMAO so you know! No pressure Phil ;)
Seriously hope this site becomes bigger than is maybe reasonable to hope. Love for poker and what I have seen within the industry on a macro level have brought me to this place.. of emotionally craving change!
I would even happily use my free time to add any sort of value to the team in any way on this subject any way at all just to make any difference, even boring grunt work. I personally want to make a difference and don't want poker to become like roulette its year's to come, its close enough already ty online poker providers with the rake, short time banks, need I go on??
PS I'm prepared to spend my time on this and if I had a rival training site and poker media sources I would even consider working with RIO poker if something could be worked out in any way for the sake of poker, just saying ;) i hope others would think the same too?
Quote John Lennon ' You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one' GL

Phil Galfond 6 years, 11 months ago

Thank you, OHU. Looks as though we both like to dream big!

I really appreciate your passion and offer to help! I see you've already added yourself to the beta list, so that's step 1.

I don't want to put you to work! The main thing that will help us when we launch is people like you, who believe in what we're doing, spreading the word. We've got plans to market, of course, but nothing can replace an endorsement from a satisfied customer.

You should wait and try the poker site and see if you like it before you singing our praises - I want honest reviews of the product we put out.

Citvej 6 years, 11 months ago

Awesome Rounders final hand at the front page. Hope the interface is similar. I instantly got the idea that a site looking like this could bring the recs to it.

OMAHAHEADSUP 6 years, 11 months ago

I am so hopeful to see how this the site works out and actually excited have applied my email for invitation play and am excited I hope the awareness and sell campaign makes enough people aware I'm so excited, SPORTS BETTERS CASINO GAMERS lol can you get those guys linked anyway or advertise to casino games market also it does actually bring in the sort of people who very recreational! re deposit! Spew! and are great for economy..I would see that as a essential element to get softer games and a natural way to counter the pro players a site like RIO could swing in creating better eco system and adding profit and sustainability to site. I only play poker but tbh love the softer players ipoker can get that are sports bet/ casino cross over players :) Hope to get accepted for BETA test or whatever I applied for really excited :) I no doubt stating the obvious but I didn't hear anyone mention it.

Smokedtruth 6 years, 11 months ago

Hey Phil just one more question I can think of for now. Will you have an association with something like boom replayer so hands are more easily shared online? Thats a huge amount of free exposure

Phil Galfond 6 years, 11 months ago

We love the idea, but we won't get something like that implemented for launch. It'll be on our list, but pushing out the other game types is a top priority and will require a lot of our resources.

4-Star_General 6 years, 11 months ago

@Phil
I'm 100% sure you tackled the BOT issue which is rampant right now, but it's good to ask anyway. Have you and your team took measures against this threat (which is fightable but poker sites aren't willing to do that)?

Phil Galfond 6 years, 11 months ago

I began writing some vague explanations of how prepared we are, but I shouldn't even go into vague detail publicly about our methods. I can say that we take game integrity very seriously at Run It Once and have been thinking about these things since the beginning.

I think some (not all) other poker sites are trying harder than you may believe. I have heard that Pokerstars puts a lot of effort into bot detection, and I'm sure they and some others catch many bots before the poker community becomes aware of them.

mfutoma 6 years, 11 months ago

Hi Phil-- it is understandable that RIO Poker is not available for Americans, given the current political climate. Do you have any advice as to what can we American citizens do to help change the regulatory climate to make RIO Poker possible in the U.S.?

Phil Galfond 6 years, 11 months ago

You'd have already taken my advice, which is to ask people what you can do to help. Unfortunately, I'm not particularly knowledgeable about the best way to make your voice heard. Maybe someone else here could offer some advice. Anyone??

Cheehc 6 years, 11 months ago

I am excited for this as someone who stopped playing poker since full tilt/black friday and have played every now and then on pokerstars but I don't enjoy it. As a non-reg/'fish' my hopes are for the following:
1) Games to be a level playing field - That means I want to have a game mode that does not allow HUDs! Having a HUD makes online poker a different game and gives an edge that i don't like when all i might want to do is play on my phone for 30mins. Knowing that regs on a desktop have tools like HUDs makes me not want to play as i ffel unprotected and at a disadvantage before i start playing (so rarely play). If there was a way to split the liquidity and have mobile players only play other mobile players i would like that.

2) Challenges - I remember full tilt academy which gave some ridiculous challenges and we earned points if we completed them. Then we could spend the points in a store. It made the game so fun! 'win with 7-2 offsuit 3 times in a 6max cash game', 'win from the button 5 times in a row in a 9 max cash game'. doing these dumb '-ev' plays was fun and got my blood pumping. I would think 'just complete one more challenge' that's the kind of mentality you what from us rec players...I got a full tilt academy jacket that probably cost me $200 in rake.. but it was worth it :p

3) New game modes - holdem has become boring and stale. It was huge 10 years ago because it was exciting and new. But playing the same game 10 years later just feels like a chore and does not make me want to come back. I tried 'split poker' on pokerstars and that was the first time in a while that i enjoyed poker.. but even i know that rake in that game was terrible. new exciting game modes. Maybe you could have a new game mode each week - ie this week 'split holdem', then the next week it changes into 'split ohama' and they do not be two different games modes on offer at the same time. It wont split the player base, just give something new and exciting each week. - See Hearthstones Tavern Brawl system..

I am excited for what is next

Cheers Phil,
From a guy in New Zealand who wants you and poker to succeed.

Phil Galfond 6 years, 11 months ago

Thanks for your support, Cheehc!

I'm not going to say much about your suggestions just yet, as I'm holding off to announce policies and features like those in future posts. I can say that these are all good ideas that we've considered.

I especially appreciate feedback from non-regs because I'm already very in the loop about what regs want. We have our launch product more or less set in stone, but we can always make changes and add things based on feedback like yours.

Cheers!

Smokedtruth 6 years, 11 months ago

@Cheec @Phil Regarding Cheec suggestions. I write as a sng(mianly but play other stuff) winning reg here:

  1. I always disliked that aspects of cash games and one of the reasons I dont grind them. Im motivated by being able to outskill opponents with expertise and strategy rationalization, these two get obscured if the wins are machine assited which is close to neccesary to be able to beat decent stakes cash games.

I take pride of being a winning reg without fancy tools, I dont use a Hud much less solver things. Id like poker to represent a game where the most skilled natural player wins in he long run, not the most fiddle.

However I have never heard of sites that can apply these policies very effectively so I didnt suggest it myself.

  1. I agree with new game mods but strongly disagree with changing the nature of the game. At the end of the day poker is what we want to play, not some childish power up nonsense

A bigger game tree is always nicer as time goes by and the games get more solved. Besides, some game types target different things, and a lot of them can be good. I.e I used to hate spins as thought it destructed other games soft liquidity(probably does), but now I like them as I see so much value from them at attracting mobile players that otherwise would just not play. Hell I wouldnt have played today as I was on the streets if it wasnt for spins, cant grind my 9 man sngs wih 10 minutes free time :/

Spins also bring another hot topic which is the thesis I presented at the 2plus2 thread that in the grand scheme of things grinders somewhat have to choose between a low variance declining income, or a higher variance(to entertain recs) sustainble higher income.

Anyways im really hapoy with your replies Phil :) so rare to see so much engagement from an operator with the community :,) it also seems that you are focused on make the best site ever, flat out, with secondary focus on the business side of things, which is trully remarkable. Hope you continue close to us man. Lol sorry for the long post, I feel as If I have a lot of ideas in need to share.

Phil Galfond 6 years, 11 months ago

Ideas are welcome, thank you! I'm eager to get feedback once I start making some announcements about our features and policies.

We have an SNG plan that I'm excited about, but we won't be able roll it out until Phase 2. I wish we could put everything into action immediately, but it takes time.

Justis 6 years, 11 months ago

This is a very superficial thing, but I was curious if the RunItOnce will have a customizable table design (cards, felt color, background, maybe even multiple themes to choose from)? Thanks in advance.

Phil Galfond 6 years, 11 months ago

Good question! It all matters.

We will have some (not a ton of) options for customization, but it's unclear right now whether they'll be added pre or post-launch. If post-launch, it shouldn't take too long.

We'll be able to add more options over time, but we haven't made this a priority right now. There are a lot of relatively small thing like this that in isolation feel like, "Yeah this is worth the little bit of work," but they add up to a very long list. We don't want to delay launch any more than we have to, so we had to prioritize the list and draw a line somewhere.

Vandalar 6 years, 11 months ago

Hi. As someone who has a criminal record for growing weed, i'm interested in what's your companies stance on hiring people like me? If there's a vacancy that could suit me- is there any point for me to apply at all?

Phil Galfond 6 years, 11 months ago

Hey, Vandalar. I assume there may be some issues related to work visas if you had to move for the role, but I don't know the answer here. I'll investigate and get back to you.

Phil Galfond 6 years, 11 months ago

Hey again, Vandalar. Sorry for the delay here. It looks like criminal records may cause more problems than I expected. I'm told that it would be very, very unlikely, but not necessarily impossible (we'd need to investigate case by case), for us to hire someone with a criminal record.

Smokedtruth 6 years, 11 months ago

Quido I also like the casual cash games in Party but I think they segregate player pool too much and make regular cash games tougher to make a living from. Its probably good that only one site has them if the others want to cater cash games regs as well

zyxx 6 years, 11 months ago

Hey Phil! I'm so glad to see that it's actually going to happen! Much respect for you and what you guys are doing.

q1) Do you have big marketings plans to get rec's in the games ? I can understand that it's going to be a slow process but I'm just curious how big of a priority it's going to be in the early days of Run It Once Poker.

q2) Do you plan on offering HU Hyper turbo games ?

q3) Do you plan on offering spin&goes ?

Thanks :)

Phil Galfond 6 years, 11 months ago

Thanks, zyxx!

1) We consider acquisition and game quality a huge priority. I will very likely address some aspects of our marketing efforts in a future post. If not, I'll be open with answers like these in forums as we get closer to launch.

2 & 3) Since we're launching with cash games only, our tournament offerings aren't set in stone. We have plans, but we'll revisit them over time as we get new information. I don't want to offer a 'yes' or 'no' before we have finalized our offering.

a a 6 years, 11 months ago

It is very good to know that RIO Poker will open in a very short time, it is the best news since Black Friday.
I hope you understand that increasing rake brings great difficulties for everyone and makes poker unfeasible in the future since regular players are forced to significantly improve our level of knowledge to survive at the tables. Weak habitual players who can not adapt leave poker. There will only be very good players and recreational players who will soon get bored because they will lose their money faster than before when there were weak regular customers.
To make a sustainable ecosystem is the existence of weak regular players or rakeback players because in this way the recreational do not feel violated at the tables.

Eldora 6 years, 11 months ago

I have never thought of how important weak regs might not only be for the stronger regs but actually for the recreationals.

And it makes a lot of sense as you said it. I guess for recreationals it can be an exciting challenge to beat regulars and probably it doesn't make a difference for them if it is the weaker ones only. A good recreational might actually level weaker regulars quite regularly (o.o) but will have a much harder/frustrating time vs the top crushers.

Phil Galfond 6 years, 11 months ago

Thanks Erick. You make very good points.

We care a lot about our ecosystem, and we've studied the effect of rake extensively. If there is such a thing as doing too much pre-launch rake analysis work, we did that!

OMAHAHEADSUP 6 years, 11 months ago

Suggestion to fix the HUD vs no HUD dilemma...

RIO has built in software accessible to anyone for just 6 universal stats without any additional permitted software
1. VPIP
2. PFR
3. 3bet
4. Fold 3bet
5. Aggression Factor
6. No of hands
No HEM2 no PT4 just 6 never expanding stats that should help stop the nerds feeling dizzy and lost without stats and encourage multi-tabling, while leaving the recs perceiving a level playing field. Note to never add or subtract by popular demand or list would be never ending.

Quido 6 years, 11 months ago

HUDs are a lot less useful than you think. Most people don't factor in ten different stats before deciding on their decision. Even with your proposal recs would lose as much (if not more with competitive rake/rakeback) as they do at PS today.

miami002 6 years, 11 months ago

I personally dont like the idea of separating players and dividing them into different groups. Thats not what poker is about. I like the competitive side of poker. Yes there`s some luck involved but poker is still a skill game. The conditions are the same for everyone.

Quido 6 years, 11 months ago

To be honest I agree. There is absolutely nothing 'unjust' about HUDs or multi-tabling. Poker is a game of skill and anybody can learn it if they really want.

Cheehc 6 years, 11 months ago

Poker with HUDs is a different game. Receiving data/information/hand histories that are processed in real time via software and displayed to you in a way to give you a read/edge on your opponents is maybe not unfair, but a version of poker in which I do not want to play.
You get to have real time analysis on a hand that went to showdown
that now importants a range of info like what they did with those whole cards preflop and every street, so your tool better understands that persons range/tendencies to help you make make better decisions in future hands... all while you were playing 6 other tables and did not pay any actual attention to that hand on table 1..
I think other recs have also tired of this (once they know about HUDs).

Using HUDs against others also using them and knowing how to use these tools better than your opponents is a skill and level playing field and its own version of poker (in my mind).
I don't want to learn how to use a HUD better to be a better online poker player because that is not the version of poker I enjoy or want to play... and so i don't...

Phil Galfond 6 years, 11 months ago

Thanks for the continued support and feedback, everyone!

So far, I've answered everything I can! Many of you are bringing up topics that I'll be addressing in a future post. That's not at all surprising because I chose the post topics based on what I felt warranted the most discussion.

I've spent the last couple of days working on Post #2, which is scheduled for next week. I promise it will answer one of your burning questions!

Quido 6 years, 11 months ago

Can't wait Phil! I want you to know that if you deliver a truly revolutionary product you will help all the players, not just the ones playing on your site. RIO will likely make all the other sites softer.

Phil Galfond 6 years, 11 months ago

My next post is nearly complete, but it covered more topics than expected, and I took to long to give the team notice to prepare a couple of images and small development tweaks. As it's almost the weekend, and there's a holiday next week in Malta, post #2 should be out next Wednesday.

Future posts will be released with less time in between them. Thanks for your patience!

Fyrtorn 6 years, 11 months ago

The problem with not allowing HUD is that there will be converters as on every other site that don't allow huds. So players like me who don't want to buy thoose converters will not play on the site because the regs who bought the converter will have an unfair advantage.

ChipTracker 6 years, 11 months ago

About the HUDs I will go even further and I dare to say that HUDs ARE unfair. One of the most important&main skills of a poker player exactly is, or should be, evaluating "other players stats" on their own and not by help of any software/tool as HUDs are. Even among regs that skill is now evened out by using a HUD and we can already find unfairness even among the regs on its own.
To make things worst those HUD evaluations are surgical precise in all directions (and actually such tools even deceptively suggest to player what to do). And we didint even touch the main disaster yet, which is that recreational and "for fun" players (which are very important and desirable customers for/of any poker room) are not using those HUDs. So, good players - regs already (without HUDs) are having big advantage on those players, by adding a HUD in their "poker weapons arsenal" this advantage goes even higher and it becomes HUGE, therefore those rec-4fun players are now completely doomed! Such games ARE unfair, unattractive, dull and very opposite of any fun & excitement (even for regs playing against each other). Plus nowadays rec-4fun players are aware of HUDs and they dont want to play in "HUD environment games" and might not even come to give it a try, or they will leave fast.
If RIO decides to allow HUDs, then for sure should provide a non HUD tables too, otherwise I think the future of RIO poker site will not be as bright as I hope. My humble suggestion would be to not allow HUDs during games, but hand histories should be available to download so players can analyze (only) their own game (other players identity in HH should be anonymous) later, off the tables.
Thank you:P:)

Interesting, I find it the opposite. As we see no behavioral tells you'd normally see in live poker there will not be any way to getting data on anyone and the game will become mostly robotic with close to no variation in creative strategies. Recs are doomed anyways since it is impossible to win with 50 VPIP at 6max. Playing the player will become a thing of the past all to placate the rec who'll lose no matter what.

I still however see nothing wrong with having few anonymous rec tables similar to the ones at Party.

@Phil Is there anyway to become a small investor on the site? I believe it should be open to investments from the same poker players that run the games, given that investors would also have a financial interest on the games profitability. The lure of decentralized poker is that of a poker site owned by the poker people in behalf of the poker people themselves

I agree with the idea and reasoning for sure, and it's something we've thought about. I'm going to wait to answer this definitively until I've made a future post, as it sorta-kinda-almost relates to a topic I'll be discussing a bit further down the road.

Hi Phil,
I'm really excited about the new site and hope you all the best. I'm not a tournament player but had an idea and thought I'd share it with you. When you cash into a tournament if you got given the cash before you bust it, it will give players the option to enter additional tournaments without having to deposit more which will get people to enter more tournaments on your site (specially if they are running good)
Best of luck! Hope I get a chance to play the Beta ;)

I wanna play! But Sweden changed a law so all poker rooms need a license. Do you plan on getting a license or should I abandon all hope?

EDIT just noticed this was an old thread, will try to find another place to post my question
